Straight Class in 2026

I am very excited to share that in 2026, all classes at Mother Teresa will be structured as straight year levels rather than composite classes.

This change reflects our commitment to the MACS Vision for Instruction and Vision for Engagement, which guide us in providing evidence based, explicit teaching, ensuring that every student experiences deep learning and a strong sense of belonging.

Alongside this structural change, we continue to refine our teaching and learning pedagogies to best support the needs of each learner based on current practice. I would like to thank our staff and school board who endorsed this change.

What does this mean for Mother Teresa Catholic Primary School?

In the past students have learned in composite year level class. In 2026 we will follow the below structure:

  • 3x Foundation Classes
  • 2x Year 1 Classes
  • 2x Year 2 Classes
  • 2x Year 3 Classes
  • 2x Year 4 Classes
  • 2x Year 5 Classes
  • 2x Year 6 Classes

Students will still have ample opportunities to work with other year levels throughout the year, with teaching teams working closely across the school to ensure coherent, structured and scaffolded teaching and learning can take place, with explicit instruction occurring in Reading, Writing and Maths.
