As a Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) school, our teaching is guided by the MACS Vision for Instruction. Launched in February 2024, it is a key document underpinning the MACS 2030 strategic plan and is grounded in evidence about how students learn most effectively and efficiently.
In our classrooms, this means a strong focus on explicit instruction. New and complex skills are introduced in small steps, with clear explanations and demonstrations of what students are expected to learn. Students then practise and receive feedback from their teacher until the skill is mastered. Drawing on Cognitive Load Theory and the Science of Learning, the approach also prioritises a well-structured, knowledge-rich curriculum and effective assessment. Underpinning it all is a belief that every child can succeed, and that with high expectations and the right support, every student can flourish.
